"Must be taken on an empty stomach (at least two hours after eating) in order to realise optimal results. Also, best if you can set aside eight hours of sleep, otherwise you may feel a bit groggy with less sleep time. I take it two hours BEFORE retiring. I also take 3 mg of melatonin 20 minutes before I go to bed as well."

"I take 2 of these 500mg capsules about 20 mins before bed and it really helps me get to sleep. Capsules are kind of big but not too bad... much easier than eating a whole turkey every night.
These don't knock me out for the entire night but I can usually count on a solid 3-5 hours of sleep and I don't feel groggy the next day.

"So many products make claims I am a total skeptic. However I have studied nutritional supplements for years and after taking a long look at the amino acids, I thought perhaps the L-Tryptophan could help my long time problem of not being able to sleep soundly and long enough. On a good night the last 25 years, I would get a scant 6.5 hours and always woke up tired. AFter three weeks of taking the L-Tryptophan as directed, I was able to not only go to sleep earlier, but sleep soundly and waken rested--after a solid 8 hours sleep which I have not gotten in years. I have been taking it for two months and am thrilled with the results. I must have been low in this nutrient. I don't know if everyone has a deficiency that this nutrient would help, but is sure helped me. I think it is important to note I eat no red meat and very little any other kinds. These are foods that furnish the best supply of this nutrient and that could be one reason I was so low on it. I hope this will help someone else. Remember it is not a magic bullet, it is nutrition and will have to remain part of your diet. Heed the labels and any warnings if you are taking any medications! You should not take this with a seratonin re-uptake inhibitor as it warns against it."

"This product works great when I start taking it within 2-3 hours of settling in to sleep. It's not for taking right before falling in the sack, as it does take a bit of time to work. The resulting sleep is great, deep sleep, as long as I go to bed when I feel ready. One thing I've found with this product is once it starts kicking in and I feel drowsy, there is a short window of time when I have to go to bed and go to sleep or else I get quite cranky and then seem to have even more trouble sleeping.
