"More protein per serving than most. Good tasting. I add 1.5 cup water, .5 cup pineapple juice, banana, egg, 1 tsp. liquid iron, and a squirt of liquid omega. This sounds weird, but I like to drink my shake while eating a chocolate bar. Ha! It takes all kinds, right? I've been using this product for over two years, and I am very satisfied."

Great product, September 9, 2009
By DLRPro from St. Louis, Missouri

"Compared to other Whey Proteins on the market I have found this to be the cleanest (no additives, artificial ingredients) on the market at the price level purchased. I would definitely, and have, recommended this product to others. I use for body building, but, can be a viable product for weight lose as well."

Excellent Quality & Good Tasting, Too, August 17, 2009
By BodybuildingRN from New England

"I've been using this supplement for several years - it's free of artificial ingredients and is a good value. I use a scoop before my workout (I add a spoonful of instant coffee to it to give me a liitle boost :D)), and have another serving after my workout (mixed w/ 5 g of NSI L-Glutamine.) I like the taste, find it easy to mix in a shaker bottle, and I definitely believe it helps w/ muscle-building and recovery."

Protein!, June 4, 2009

"I bought this for my fiance, and I. The taste is really great, it isn't as sweet as some might be used to, I however prefer that. :) This keeps me full until my next meal."

Very Good Protein, April 23, 2009
By Slink from Muncie, IN

"One of the few products I could find that didn't have artificial sweeteners or the cheaper protein concentrate as the primary source of protein. It is mostly protein isolate (not sure of the exact % though) with protein concentrate secondary. Also, tastes great, mixes very well with water, and pretty well with milk. Price is very good too."

Not good but not bad, March 29, 2009
By kevind from Kentucky

"This mix is neither good nor bad but I just didn't like the flavor, even when mixed with fruit, peanut butter, yogurt etc. I defenetly would not drink it alone. I tried mixing it with just water in a shaker before a workout and I hade to force myself to drink it. So buyer beware I would go with a different flavor unless your tastebuds are different than mine."

Another great ON product, March 28, 2009
By bigfootinindiana from Indiana, USA

"Great product for the price per serving, my only complaint was that the taste is a little off with the vanilla. I guess that is a result of it being "natural". The regular gold standard has a much better taste. I found that mixing a little Stevia in each serving made it more palatable. Still it's hard to go wrong with any ON product."

A great protein, but the taste..., March 2, 2009
By peequod from San Francisco, CA

"is not pleasant. Mixing it with water? Can be done with little clumping as it is instantized--not sure that's a word. Good for a pure protein additive, not a meal replacer. No protein powder I've ever tasted--and I've tasted quite a few-- beats Muscle Milk for taste and I'm not being paid to say that."

Great product, August 13, 2008
By Lloyd from Atlanta

"This is a superior protein compared to the other brands I have pruchased. The powder is milled so finely it does not clump up like other brands. In my opinion this is one of the most important features of the product."

Excellent Protein Supplement, August 1, 2008
By Train2Fight

"If you're looking for a good, basic whey protein supplement, I would highly recommend this product. This natural version contains no artificial sweetners, colors or flavors so it's a better alternative to the typical whey supplement."

Great Protein, July 12, 2008
By skynyrd

"Good quality natural protein. Have tried many protein powders and optimum is the best. It mixes well with shaker/blender, no lumps. Without any artificial sweetners it is not as sweet as other proteins, but after a week of taking it you don't even really notice. My kids also love blending shakes with this, with no worry about the sweetners!"

Tastes good, but a little thin, June 8, 2008
By PrinceAli from California

"If you mix this with milk, it tastes great. I use a shaker and it dissolves completely. When mixed with water, it tastes too thin and watery. EAS whey protein tastes much richer, but it does have an extra gram of fat per serving. Overall it's really good, but if you want a good tasting drink mix it with milk or try EAS."

Whey Works, May 9, 2008
By AggieT from Davis, CA

"I have been taking Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Protein Vanilla at the beginning of summer of 2007 where I weighed in about 125. At the end of of summer I weighed in at 135, gaining a good 10 pounds of muscles. I am attending college right now and hardly found time to work out again until spring quarter where I purchased some more Whey protein and started working out again. I have gained 5 more pounds of muscle in 5 weeks, using Whey protein right after every workout."

Best I have found for the money..., May 2, 2008
By tennis5 from Atlanta, GA

"No artificial sweetners, natural across the board and the taste is good as whey proteins go...I have tried several others and this one takes the prize. Been taking this protein for a couple years as a supplement to my workout routine. It mixes pretty well with skim milk, soy milk, or water."

It took me back..., March 2, 2008
By VitaDude from Fort Collins, CO

"I bought the Vanilla flavor based on the taste reviews on this page. I was so excited to get it. Boy was I in for a surprise. This is without a doubt, the worst-tasting protein drink I've had in at least 20 years. It took me back to my first protein drink - before anyone knew how to mask the nastified flavors of straight whey powder. Furthermore is has that chalky texture that makes it almost impossible to get down. I tried mixing it with ice cream and Hershey's syrup, but could not find a palatable combination.
On the bright side, Optimum Nutrition does make some great tasting protein drinks. Although people on this site bash the taste of the "Cookies and Cream" I find it the most agreeable - especially when drank warm like hot chocolate. Just make sure you don't get it too hot or it will congeal. Fill a coffee mug with about 7 ounces of water and microwave for only 60 - 70 seconds. Then dump into a water bottle with three scoops of powder (anything but Vanilla), and shake for about five seconds. Pour back into coffee mug through an almost-closed lid to keep the foam out. Enjoy.

"I had a gastric bypass in 2003. Since then I have been through many protein products. Let me tell you, protein powder that is low in carbs and sugar is just plain nasty. There's no other way to say it. I have settled with and have been very satisfied with Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard for a few years, now. I switch flavors every time I buy. The only way I can drink protein is to add it in my morning coffee. Stirs very well with a small whisk. DO NOT put hot liquid and protein in a shaker. It will explode. And don't put a lid on it when it's hot. It will congeal. EW! If you like iced coffee, you can add ice after you mix. It's good this way, too. Give it a try!"
