With the naturally occurring mineral potassium nitrate for protecting sensitive teeth from painful stimuli. What causes sensitive teeth? Our teeth are protected by enamel. When the enamel is worn away or gums recede, dentin underneath becomes exposed and teeth become sensitive, especially to hot and cold foods. This is called dentin hypersensitivity. It is usually experienced as we age, but tooth grinding, gum disease, and brushing too hard can also contribute. Why Tom's of Maine for Sensitive Teeth? The ingredients in Tom's of Maine Toothpaste for Sensitive Teeth help reduce the incidence of pain while efficiently cleaning your teeth. Our active ingredient, potassium nitrate, is clinically proven effective in soothing sensitive teeth and is derived from naturally occurring deposits of nitrate ore rather than the synthetic nitrates used by other brands. Our safe, low abrasion formula protects tooth enamel while cleaning teeth. Natural Flavor:. We blend wintergreen and peppermint oils for a smooth, refreshing flavor that avoids bitterness. The 5 Day Flavor Test:. Tom's toothpaste is different from major brands because it does not contain saccharin, a synthetic sweetener 400 times sweeter than sugar. Your taste buds may need a chance to adjust to the experience of a natural flavor. Try this simple test. Use Tom's for 5 days. Then try your regular brand. We'll wager you'll stay with the clean, refreshing taste of Tom's. How do we define natural? By natural we mean that the product contains no artificial preservatives, artificial dyes, or artificial sweeteners (like saccharin) and is created with minimally processed ingredients originally sourced in nature. On each box we list our ingredients, their purpose and source. We believe you have a right to know. Uses:. Builds increasing protection against painful sensitivity of the teeth to cold, heat, acid, sweets or contact.

"Tom's really works. I have a few sensitive teeth and it took maybe a few days for the sensitivity to end. Also I dislike taking in unnessary fluoride(which Tom's has none)."

"I wanted to stop using regular commercial toothpastes that contain thyroid-suppressing fluoride in them, & I also have sensitive teeth, so I thought this natural toothpaste would be perfect. It tastes great without any added sugar (sweetened with xylitol, which has anti-cavity properties) & the mint flavor is not overpowering the way many commercial preparations are. I was thrilled to stop using fluoride toothpaste. But after a few weeks I haven't noticed my teeth getting any less sensitive to cold drinks, & instead noticed that plaque buildup recurs a much deal faster after brushing than the commercial preparations I used to use. I'll finish this tube but I don't think I'll buy it again. It doesn't clean well enough with my electric sonic toothbrush. I will try another type or brand without fluoride. It does taste good however."

"Has the active ingredient for sensitive teeth in same strength as Sensodyne, and it does suppress sensitivity somewhat. Taste is unpleasant, astringent. Don't get any on your clothing, it's a pain to get it off. Price is good and delivery is fast from this vendor."

"I have used Tom's regular all natural toothpaste for quite some time. Then I decided to use the Tom's all natural for sensitive teeth because I had tooth work done and they became rather sensitive. All of Tom's all natural toothpaste leaves my teeth feeling really clean. I have also notice a hugh difference in the whiteness of my teeth. The sensitive toothpaste has already helped a lot and I've only used it for less than 2 weeks. I also like the fact that Tom's has no flouride, additives or harmful chemicals in it, therefore it is not harmful to your body. I would not trade my Tom's for all the world's other brands."

"I have used other "sensitive" toothpastes, however none seemed to concur the sensitivity quite as quickly and as well as this product. I was amazed after using it just one day. I have purchased my 2nd tube and will be a dedicated user in the future! The flavor is also refreshing!"

"I have a bunch of crowns and therefore sensitive teeth... so I had enough of your regular toothpastes for sensitive teeth and I wanted to try something with no drugs. I was really skeptical. This paste works, but you need to really use it every time. If I skip it here and there (for a different natural paste) - I can start feeling sensitivity creeping back. My only suggestion - different flavors (tea tree?) would be nice..."

"The is the only natural toothpaste for sensitive teeth I've found. It works great to reduce my sensitivity. I do wish that it didn't have sodium lauryl sulfate, but I've noticed that Tom's of Maine is in the process of changing the formula of this product to omit SLS. I also wish that it had fluoride, especially since I can't afford to see a dentist regularly at the moment. But I can tolerate having to use a separate fluoride rinse in order to use a natural toothpaste."

"I was hoping to find the currant flavored sensitive variety of Tom's toothpaste here on VitaCost that I had come to love from my overpriced local health food store, but since the sensitivity issue was more important, I settled for the wintermint available here bracing for overly strong mint so common in most toothpastes. I was delighted to find the mint of this one was just minty enough to feel refreshing for a little bit, but light enough that it didn't flavor my breakfast or make me feel like I was exhaling ice crystals."

"Works very well for sensitive teeth. I also like the taste--not sickly saccarine aftertaste. This is a product I regularly purchase. The only thing I wish were different is the tube--as I get to the end it is difficult to get the last few days worth out. Overall, the paste is very, very good."
