Not Necessarily A Great Insect Repellant
November 23, 2015
"I had read online that catnip is a great insect repellant. My apartment is infested with what I call "micro" ants, about the size of a grain of pepper. I couldn't find any catnip in local stores, so I thought this would be worth a try. At first, it seemed like this would do the trick. The ants would go out of their way to avoid a line of the powder when I broke open a capsule and spread the herb around my kitchen counter or in my bathroom. Unfortunately, the li'l bugger boogers are outlandishly persistant. They got used to the stuff, I guess, and if there were the smallest breaks in a catnip line, they passed through that. I have a house sitter engagement in a couple of weeks, and the owner has 3 cats. If he has something I can put some of this catnip into, such as some empty tobacco pouch bags, maybe I can use this to get the cats used to me. As the review summary says, catnip isn't necessarily good as an insect repellant. For the micro ants, I did better with peppermint oil. However, it requires daily reapplication."
